Calisthenics is a special form of physical training. The training consists of simple, often rhythmic movements, for which almost exclusively one's own body weight is used, meaning generally no special calisthenics equipment is needed.
In addition to the term calisthenics, the term "body weight exercises" is a synonym to it. However, there are some differences between the different forms, which mainly relate to the combination of classical calisthenics with other elements.
Since Calisthenics uses hardly any additional weights apart from the exception "weighted calisthenics", the weight handled in the exercises remains largely constant. If you want to ensure an additional load, you either change the lever or you perform the exercises explosively. In addition, you can go over to supersets or make the exercise more difficult with calisthenics equipment, such as a resistance band or a weight vest. Of course, there is always the option of performing a heavier form of exercise (e.g., one-arm pull-up instead of pull-ups with both arms).
In addition to the fact that no special calisthenics equipment is needed for the training, there are further advantages:
Pull-up bars are the key calisthenics equipment for excellence. They allow you a large variety of pull-up bar exercises. They are available in different versions: for the wall, for the ceiling, for the door frame and for the garden. In addition, there are also pull-up bars as a unique combination, such as the Pullup & Dip bar for pull-ups and dips for indoors and outdoors. On our overview page you will find many helpful information about buying a pull-up bar.
Pull-up bands (also called resistance bands) are an ideal calisthenics equipment that will assist you with exercises such as muscle-ups, pull-ups, dips or human flag. The bands take away some of your body weight depending on the strength you use. But they can also be used as additional resistance (for exercises such as push-ups, dips, squats or shoulder presses). This calisthenics equipment is perfect for warming up, for fitness and muscle building as well as for stretching and for mobility exercises. The bands allow effective total body training with many different exercises.
Pull-up bands are available in different strengths - depending on the desired resistance or desired support. Due to their compactness and their low weight, they can also be easily transported in a backpack or bag to your favourite training location. Pull-up bands are essential calisthenics equipment!
Gymnastic rings or gym rings enable holistic, functional body weight training. The freedom of movement of the rings means that your muscles have to compensate for instability in all directions during training. Thus, an additional training effect compared to training with dumbbells or guided exercises on machines is achieved. This calisthenics equipment can be mounted either on a stable branch or beam in the outdoor area as well as on the ceiling or on a pull-up bar at home.
In combination with a pull-up bar, gymnastic rings allow you to do even more bodyweight exercises, such as rowing or triceps extensions. Overall, gymnastic rings allow you over 35 different full-body exercises for a varied calisthenics workout. The low weight and compactness of this calisthenics equipment also makes it ideal for travel or outdoor training.
Workout mats also known as fitness mats are well suited as calisthenics equipment for exercises where you touch the ground with your back or knees (for example, dragon Flag or kneeling triceps extensions with gymnastic rings). They are also ideal for skipping, crossfit, Freeletics and yoga training.
With the Pallid Falcon workout mats our webshop offers durable fitness mats with unique features and high quality materials. Thanks to their optimal cushioning, they protect your joints and have no memory effect. In other words, the fitness mats immediately return to its original state when deformed.
Grip pads allow increased grip during exercises such as pull-ups. The reason: The sweat is absorbed effectively. As a result, the number of hoists and thus the training effect can be increased. In addition, the padding protects the skin from cracks and callous formation and they reduce the pressure on the hands.
This calisthenics equipment comes in different variations: with neoprene pads and eyelets for the fingers to hold the grip pads in place; with genuine leather cover or as a square foam pad. Grip pads are an ideal calisthenics equipment for pull exercises, primarily because of the sweat absorption and increased grip.
Jumping ropes are very effective strength-endurance sports equipment. They are ideal for warm-up use in martial arts, calisthenics, crossfit and freeletics training. You can do skipping both at home and outdoors and thus warm up optimally for your upcoming training.
Skipping is the perfect training for coordination, speed and strength. It burns just as many calories in just 10 minutes as running for 30 minutes.
A good jump rope should have non-slip handles so you always have a good grip even with sweaty hands. In addition, it should have a fast rotating ball joint and an adjustable rope length.
Parallettes are next to pull-up bars in terms of key calisthenics equipment for excellence. With parallettes you train both strength and endurance, body tension and balance. The specific parts of the body worked are the arm muscles, the shoulder muscles, the trunk and the abdominal muscles.
The most common exercises with this piece of calisthenics equipment are: Push-ups, Dips, L-Sit, Handstand, Planche, Straddle-Sit, V-Sit.
Parallettes are ideal to use both at home and outdoors. Due to their modest dimensions, they can usually be stowed away and, depending on the design, also fit in a backpack in order to be transported to an outdoor training spot.
Parallettes are available in different versions: as a low version (so-called low parallettes), as a middle version (simply called parallettes) and as a high version (so-called high parallettes).
And there are also different versions of the material: premium parallettes have a wooden handle, which allows an optimal grip even with sweaty hands and is ergonomically adapted to the hand. Cheaper variants usually have a tube as a handle bar.
It is particularly important that the calisthenics equipment does not wobble and thus guarantees a firm footing, both indoors and outdoors. In addition, the resilience must be sufficiently high, so that it can easily withstand athletes with a high body weight.
Liquid chalk (also: liquid magnesia) is mainly used in calisthenics, climbing, weightlifting, gymnastics, crossfit and bowling. It reduces sweating on the hands and improves grip. Thus, this product prevents the trainees hands slipping off the bar or barbell during training.
An advantage of liquid chalk is that it is virtually dust-free and does not leave any powder marks on clothing. That's why it's also allowed in gyms and climbing halls. Magnesium in powder form is often forbidden here.
All you have to do is put a small dab in your hands and rub it. The Liquid Chalk dries in seconds and leaves a thin chalk film, which gives you an optimal grip. After training, the chalk can be washed off from your hands with water and some soap.
Equipment for the so-called "weighted calisthenics", meaning: Calisthenics with additional weight, there are dip belt and weight vests. These provide additional weight for more resistance and thus set a new training stimulus. This Calisthenics equipment is mainly used for exercises such as pull-ups or dips.
Dip belts are placed around the waist and loaded with additional weights or a kettlebell. They usually have an adjustable chain that can be adapted to the required length.
Weight vests have removable, adjustable weights and are more flexible or more mobile than dip belts. This is especially important for exercises with ground contact. The weights are evenly distributed in the pockets of the vest. This is comfortable to wear thanks to the padded lining.
